Music industry revenues hit a record high of $8.4B, up 10.5%. There are 300 million musicians worldwide, and 90.7% are undiscovered. Vibrant local music scenes drive creative talent and economic growth, but music workers are not benefiting. The current business model IS NOT WORKING. We desperately need new business models that balance profit and purpose by prioritizing sharing power and resources, so we created the Live Music Project. What's the mission of our Live Music Project?

• Help local businesses and musicians get found and provide more opportunities for music workers to perform.
• Compensate music workers with fair pay, help them earn monthly recurring income, and generate online music sales.
• Encourage studio recordings, video production, and live streaming.
• Improve equal access for people of color and other underrepresented groups.
• Find and promote the top local talent.
• Help our partners become sustainable.
• Create stronger local economies and experiences surrounding the event.

Spectators

Musicians, DJs, and Emcees/Hosts

• Featured musicians – Make $400 per band member to perform original songs for 30 minutes. Headlining musicians must have one year of live performances, six songs on Spotify, or three music videos on YouTube.
• Opening musicians – Make $200 per band member to perform original songs for 15 minutes. Musicians must have three songs on Spotify.
• DJs – Make $800. DJs must have a minimum of three 1-hour sets on Mixcloud or SoundCloud, mixing various musical styles and genres and photos of their setups.
• Emcees – Make $400.
• Recurring income – Earn a live stream monthly income of $2 per viewer.
• Exhibition space – Get a 10x10 space to sell merch and meet fans.
• Spotify – Your music on Spotify will be promoted to 200K residents on Facebook and Instagram.
• Equity – 2,000 shares of stock options awarded to the first 2,000 Premium members vested over 24 months.

Vendors and Food Trucks

• Exhibition space – Get a 10x10 space to generate leads and sales, boost your visibility, showcase a service or product, and interact with prospects.
• Equity – 2,000 shares of stock options awarded to the first 2,000 Premium members vested over 24 months.

Become a Promoter

Share and distribute the official event flyer with your unique promo code and earn $2 for each registrant who enters the event. Receive payment via Paypal, Zelle, or Cash App 3-5 days after the event. A Locals I Know business page is required to become a promoter. Contact us to request your promo code and/or print flyers.

We have over 15 years of experience in web development, videography, photography, marketing, and event production. We've spent over ten years capturing local culture, publishing over 100 videos. We also produced Houston's first hip-hop festival in 2016 and several local events showcasing national and local artists.

FAQs

Why do I need a membership to register?

The music industry is a business; free platforms where you are the product cannot support local music. Your membership contributes to the mission. A Locals I Know membership also helps promoters, venues, festivals, talent buyers, bloggers, journalists, and fans quickly find and evaluate your business. 

How do we get paid?

• Headliners and DJs receive a 50% deposit and the balance after a performance.
• Opening musicians are paid after a performance.
• Payments are sent via Cash App or Paypal.

What are your vendor policies?

• Vendors must set up 1 hour before the doors open.
• The sale of firearms, ammo, weapons, drugs, cannabis-related products, and live animals is prohibited.
• Items sold inside booth areas must be in good taste.
• Vendors are required to stay the entire event duration. Vendors that leave early and no-shows will be banned from participating in future events.
